DISCOVER: Nottingham - Bram Bancroft, Vega Bay

Written by Sam Drury

IN THIS WEEK’S second deep dive into Nottingham’s burgeoning music scene, we are lifting the lid on the city’s developing Indie rockers, Vega Bay.

Made up of four teens from Nottingham, the young outfit are establishing a style, which mixes a plethora of influences from Mac Demarco, The Drums and The Smiths, which is a mature set of sounds for a band as young and early in their career as Vega Bay.

The Notts quartet also has a touch of the epics about them; plain to see on Sometimes It Rains from their debut EP; What Remains, which like Cherry Hex and the Dream Church’s debut release, came into being following a packed show at Nottingham’s Rough Trade, Broad Street.

The debut release is a sign of what Vega Bay’s future looks like.

They are still nailing down an exact sound, grabbing influence from many acts and using them to full effect in their first body of work.

All the hallmarks of an act that can develop into a long-standing part of Nottingham’s music scene are there in Vega Bay.

With this in mind, Sam Drury caught up with the band’s guitarist, Bram Bancroft to discuss stuff he deemed important, and not talk about any of the above:
